About The Position

The Sports Official officiates youth and adult sports games and helps provide a fun, safe, quality, and mission-driven experience at the Jerry Long Family YMCA. The role requires an enthusiastic, professional, and caring approach, the ability to build relationships with participants, parents, coaches, and staff, and a general knowledge of major sports. The official is expected to learn and understand the YMCA’s mission and best practices. The schedule varies according to the season and program needs; evenings and weekends are required. The position is seasonal and pays $10.00–$11.00 per hour.

Willingness to officiate at other YMCA of NWNC branches if needed.
Current CPR/First Aid/AED/Oxygen administration certification, or willingness to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of rules for basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, and/or baseball.

Responsibilities

Officiate youth and adult sports games with enthusiasm and sound judgment.
Engage with and build relationships with coaches, participants, and parents.
Assist with projects as needed.
Monitor activities in the gym or field, including proper equipment use.
Help ensure a fun, safe, quality experience in accordance with Association policies and guidelines, including monitoring participant language and behavior.
Clean the gym or field as needed.
Promote participant safety through knowledge of rules and precautions.
Understand and enforce Association game-play rules.
Help coach preschool participants in Rookie Sports programs.
Assist with sports department marketing.
