About The Position

The YMCA of Broome County is seeking a Sports Official & Facility Supervisor who has a passion for sports and enjoys working with people. This role is responsible for officiating YMCA sports leagues, maintaining a safe playing environment, and supervising gym rental groups. The position is crucial for providing quality recreational experiences while ensuring YMCA policies and safety procedures are followed.

Requirements

Knowledge of soccer, basketball, and volleyball rules
Ability to communicate effectively with youth, adults, coaches, and spectators
Strong judgment, professionalism, and conflict-resolution skills
Ability to work independently and remain calm in fast-paced situations
Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work evenings and weekends

Nice To Haves

Previous officiating, coaching, or playing experience preferred

Responsibilities

Officiate youth soccer, basketball, and adult volleyball games according to YMCA and league rules.
Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play during all games and events.
Make fair, consistent decisions while maintaining control of the game.
Supervise gym rental groups before, during, and after scheduled rentals.
Enforce YMCA policies and facility rules with professionalism and respect.
Address participant questions and resolve conflicts in a calm and courteous manner.
Inspect equipment and playing areas before activities and report safety concerns.
Complete accident and incident reports as needed.
Communicate with YMCA staff regarding facility needs, participant concerns, or emergencies.
Represent the YMCA's mission and core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
