About The Position

The Sports Information Assistant will coordinate department photography and videography, including headshots, team photos, media day, promo videos, and action photos. This role will also coordinate and produce all live video streaming for all home events, as well as produce video content for the website. A key responsibility will be to create and manage content (photography, videography, and graphics) for the McMurry Athletics social media portfolio (Instagram, Facebook, X), with a specific priority on enhancing department branding initiatives. The assistant will also assume other projects and duties as assigned and agreed upon by the Sports Information Director and Athletics Director. They will assist in all daily operations of the Sports Information office, working under the Director of Sports Information, and serve as a secondary communications contact for other sports as needed. This role will support managing, creating, and strategizing creative digital content for the department’s social media channels for athletic game days. Additionally, the assistant will coordinate media credential requests, arrange interviews for coaches, student-athletes, and staff, and handle any other media requests. They will coordinate all aspects of media coverage for home events, utilizing modern technology to accommodate media productions. Support will be provided for special athletic events, including the Wally Award ceremony, Jimmy Lee Pierce Golf Classic, and other events as directed by the Athletics Director and Sports Information Director. The role involves maintaining and overseeing athletics media and game day equipment and managing post-event reporting and documentation requirements. Keeping statistics, maintaining program records, and tracking statistics for teams are also key duties. Experience with NCAA live stats and Presto is required. The assistant will write features and press releases, and participate in some public address, radio, and/or video work. Finally, they will help with the recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of student workers/assistants.

Requirements

  • Experience with NCAA live stats and Presto.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Sports Management, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in sports information, media relations, or a related role.
  • Proficiency with digital media tools, including web content management systems, social media platforms, and graphic design software.
