About The Position

This position will work on NFL Network shows as part of the team in Inglewood, CA, and be part of the company’s larger Research & Graphics squad. The mission is to provide ESPN’s television, audio, digital and social platforms with statistics, context and historical perspectives that make sports coverage interesting to the sports fanatic and understandable to the casual observer. This role involves working in a production center surrounded by people who share a passion for sports, feeding an endless flow of differentiating content across ESPN platforms. Sports Content Researchers use their knowledge and ESPN’s resources, including advanced metrics, to analyze sporting events. The role covers NFL, college football, NBA, NHL, WNBA, and college basketball, with any sport potentially delivering significant stories.

Requirements

  • 1 year of related experience in sports, statistics, research or a related field
  • Full availability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Broad knowledge of most sports and deep knowledge of NFL and several others, including awareness of current/historical sports statistics, milestones, news, and events
  • Elite writing and grammar skills
  • Aptitude to research, write air-ready scripts for BottomLine as well as Event and Studio productions
  • Ability to communicate information accurately
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and react to breaking news
  • Ability to follow all Disney, ESPN and department policies and directives
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with statistics in an online, television or print media environment
  • Fluency in reading, speaking and writing Spanish
  • Demonstrated track record of training others and/or managing team-based projects
  • College degree or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Create original full-screen graphics and anchor lead-ins for live shows using research and written copy.
  • Post relevant news on the ESPN BottomLine/NFL Network ticker, including Breaking News alerts and in-depth coverage, putting complex news stories into context.
  • Create informative, factually accurate, and unique game previews for shows.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on all elements of a studio show, from unearthing facts to providing relevant stats for breaking news like trades, coaching changes, or injuries.
  • Provide real-time updates for anchors and announcers during live broadcasts.
  • Develop interesting segments and help colleagues develop their ideas.
  • Develop visually appealing, factually revealing visuals for TV and digital feeds.
  • Respond immediately to breaking news by using deep knowledge of advanced metrics, analytics, and research tools to create supporting content with very short deadlines.
