About The Position

The YMCA of the Pikes Peak region is seeking a compassionate and patient Sports Associate to support its sports program and help provide a safe, nurturing environment. The role performs pre- and post-game duties to ensure facilities are ready and safe for league play, oversees games to maintain fair play and good sportsmanship, and officiates according to sport rules and YMCA policies. The Sports Associate helps maintain a safe and orderly facility during practices and games, provides instructions to participants, and handles questions and concerns from coaches, players, and parents professionally. Candidates should be able to make timely decisions, resolve conflicts, and remain calm while handling disputes. The position supports the YMCA's work strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must possess knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports and be willing to learn other sport fundamentals as necessary.
• Must have knowledge and ability to officiate games.
• Must demonstrate courtesy and service to program participants and maintain a professional appearance.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control in facilities being used at all times.
• Provide leadership to youth on the playing field.
• Develop and maintain communication with parents, players, and coaches.
• Enforce rules for the specific sport, as well as YMCA rules and philosophies.
• Keep current on schedule changes.
• Maintain regular communication with the Sports Director.
• Set up and take down equipment.
• Respond promptly to emergencies.
• Maintain cleanliness of facility sites.
• Complete score sheets and submit them to the Sports Director as required.
• Referee sporting events according to the rules set forth.
• Attend training and meetings relating to the position.
