About The Position

Radio-Canada Ottawa-Gatineau is looking for a sporting life videojournalist. This is a permanent, full-time role working three (3) days on a weekday schedule and two (2) days on a weekend schedule. The greater Ottawa-Gatineau area is home to a large number of Canada’s national and multi-sport organizations and professional, college and university sports teams. This is a unique opportunity to create content that is informative and interesting for our audiences and relevant to their lives. This role requires full-time on-site presence.

Requirements

  • Graduation from university or community college in a relevant course of study.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant journalism experience.
  • Solid reporting skills.
  • Proven skills shooting and editing video to tell compelling stories.
  • Comfortable and dynamic on-air presence.
  • Excellent interviewing skills.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Flexibility to work regularly for television, radio and/or digital platforms.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of the latest sporting events as well as sports-related community and socio-economic issues.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the key issues facing Ontario, Eastern Ontario and the Ottawa/Gatineau region.
  • Demonstrated range of visual storytelling techniques and digital best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of social media and digital platforms in general.
  • Critical acumen.
  • Proven ability to generate original story ideas and knowledgeable contacts.
  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Proven conversational writing style.
  • Ability to respond to breaking news situations quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a high-pressure, tight-deadline environment, often in unexpected overtime situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Solid command of French and good knowledge of English (asset).
  • Valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurer.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of camera models Sony PXW x200, Sony RX10 and Sony A7R iv is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Avid Media Composer, Photoshop and Lightroom is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and process news from the local and national sports scene.
  • Create content for all Radio-Canada platforms.
  • Write copy and produce video for digital platforms.
  • Contribute to Le Téléjournal Ottawa-Gatineau, live or pre-recorded radio newscasts and programs.
  • Work on national programs.
  • Prepare, align, set up and operate various cameras and ancillary equipment, ensuring optimal audio and video quality under prevailing conditions.
  • Lend a hand in the newsroom as a general news videojournalist when needed.
