About The Position

Runnings is seeking a motivated, hands-on Sporting Goods Department Manager to lead the department in a new 21,000-square-foot retail store in Watford City, North Dakota. The manager oversees merchandising, inventory, sales performance, and customer service while supporting and developing a high-performing team. The role serves customers shopping for hunting, shooting sports, fishing, and outdoor products, with particular emphasis on knowledge of firearms, ammunition, and accessories. The position is based in an active retail environment with frequent customer interaction and requires a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, and every other weekend. Hourly pay is $18.00–$22.00, based on experience.

Requirements

Strong understanding of sporting goods products; extensive knowledge of firearms, ammunition, accessories, hunting, or outdoor recreation products is preferred.
Customer-focused mindset and passion for delivering an exceptional shopping experience.
Ability to coach, train, and positively influence team members while promoting accountability and teamwork.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and maintain department standards.
Ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule, including days, evenings, and every other weekend.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, reach, twist, and move merchandise.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous retail, sporting goods, or customer service experience preferred.
Prior leadership, supervisory, or department management experience is a plus.
Extensive knowledge of firearms, ammunition, accessories, hunting, or outdoor recreation products preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead the merchandising and presentation of sporting goods products.
Coordinate placement and distribution of new merchandise within the department.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels and product availability.
Deliver outstanding customer service and help customers select and purchase products.
Share product knowledge and expertise, particularly about firearms, ammunition, and sporting goods accessories.
Partner with Retail Buyers to identify inventory needs and product opportunities.
Train, mentor, and support department team members.
Ensure merchandise is handled safely by customers and employees.
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department.
Support store operations and complete additional responsibilities as assigned.
