About The Position

Runnings is seeking a motivated, hands-on Department Manager for the Tools, Hardware, Plumbing, and Electrical department at a new 66,000-square-foot retail store in Watford City, North Dakota. The manager leads a busy, customer-focused department serving homeowners, contractors, farmers, ranchers, and DIY customers. The role owns merchandising, inventory, sales performance, and customer service, while helping develop a knowledgeable and engaged team. The position offers an hourly pay range of $18.00–$22.00, based on experience. This is an active retail-store role involving frequent customer interaction, problem-solving, merchandising, and product handling. The manager works a varied schedule that includes days, evenings, and every other weekend. Physical requirements include frequently lifting up to 50 pounds and extended periods of standing and walking, as well as frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and moving merchandise.

Requirements

Strong understanding of tools, hardware, plumbing, electrical, fasteners, shop supplies, home improvement products, or related categories is preferred.
Customer-focused mindset and passion for helping customers find solutions and complete projects.
Ability to train, coach, and positively influence team members while promoting teamwork and accountability.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks, maintain standards, and drive department performance.
Problem-solving skills and comfort assisting customers with product questions and practical project solutions.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous retail, hardware, construction, maintenance, home improvement, farm and ranch, or customer service experience preferred.
Prior leadership, supervisory, or department management experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead merchandising and presentation of tools, hardware, plumbing, and electrical products.
Coordinate placement and distribution of new merchandise within the department.
Maintain accurate inventory levels and strong in-stock conditions.
Provide customer service and assist customers with product selection and purchases.
Share product knowledge and recommendations to help customers complete projects safely and successfully.
Partner with Retail Buyers to identify inventory needs and product opportunities.
Train, mentor, and support department team members.
Monitor pricing, signage, merchandising standards, and department appearance.
Ensure safe handling, storage, and display of merchandise.
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked department.
Support overall store operations and perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
