About The Position

This position is responsible for organizing and coordinating the school spelling bee, from initial planning and word selection to the final competition and participation in the county-level event. The goal is to maximize student participation and produce a school winner to compete in the DELCO contest.

Responsibilities

Submit requests for spelling bee booklets to Home and School and contact the Delaware County Daily Times.
Pick up spelling bee booklets.
Set the date for the school spelling bee, ensuring no conflicts with other school events.
Select words for a pre-test and distribute them to middle school Language Arts teachers.
Receive top scorers from Language Arts teachers to form the school spelling bee participants.
Establish dates for student practice sessions.
Schedule custodian for dry run and actual spelling bee days.
Provide a diagram for the setup of chairs, microphones, and tables.
Solicit teachers to volunteer for roles such as word caller, dictionary person, and judges.
Arrange to video tape the spelling bee and ensure it is shown on “Inside Interboro.”
Arrange for post-event pictures to be sent to the local newspaper.
Invite 5th grade teachers to attend the spelling bee.
Organize, conduct, and host the school spelling bee assembly.
Order trophies for the champion and first runner-up.
Select and type spelling bee words from the provided lists (beginning, intermediate, advanced).
Order a dictionary to accompany the spelling bee booklet from Paideia.
Write an introduction for the word pronunciation person.
Inform the Principal about teachers assisting with the spelling bee and the need for student monitoring.
Compose a letter for participants' parents about the spelling bee date.
Send a thank you letter to Home and School for their support.
Purchase gifts for the custodian and assisting teachers.
Ensure the winner submits a picture and participation form to the Daily Times before the deadline.
Attend the county spelling bee to support the school's winners.
