Speech Therapy Intern
About The Position
This role involves adhering to American Speech Language & Hearing Association (ASHA/State guidelines) until the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is obtained. The intern will interpret physician orders, administer and interpret tests, and review patient charts to modify treatment plans. They will develop functional goals based on patient and family expectations, and instruct patients, families, and healthcare staff on progress and discharge plans. The intern will also participate in meetings, maintain treatment documentation, use appropriate modalities and procedures, ensure equipment is functioning correctly, and provide in-services to staff.
Requirements
- Master's degree in speech-language pathology/communication sciences and disorders
- State Intern Licensure
- BLS-Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center.

- Competency in performing modified barium swallow exams
Responsibilities
- Adheres to American Speech Language & Hearing Association (ASHA/State guidelines) until the notification of Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is obtained.
- Interprets physician orders and requests interpretation as necessary.
- Administers and interprets tests and measurements of patients.
- Reviews patient chart and progress prior to treatment and modifies the treatment plan accordingly.
- Develops realistic functional goals based on patient and/or family expectations.
- Instructs and involves patient, family, social worker, nursing staff and discharge planner in patient's progress and discharge plans.
- Participates in appropriate meetings.
- Maintains documentation of all treatments.
- Uses appropriate modalities and procedures.
- Assures appropriate equipment performance prior to each use.
- Provides in-service to staff.
