Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders or similarly titled area that is consistent and acceptable to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Ability to travel nationwide for 13-week assignments.
  • Must be able to work across the U.S.

  • Specialized training and competence in flexible/nasal endoscopy for evaluating and treating disorders of swallowing function.

Responsibilities

  • Travel nationwide for 13-week assignments.
  • Provide speech-language services to facilitate rehabilitation.
  • Direct patient participation in tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance.
  • Facilitate learning of skills and functions essential for communication and swallowing.
  • Diminish or remediate disorders or deficits.
  • Direct activities to promote and maintain health.
  • Supervise CFYs, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel.
  • Ensure effective and efficient delivery of rehab services.
  • Adhere to established plan of care, department and patient(s)' schedule, and timely documentation of services.
  • Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences, and other related meetings.
  • Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies.
  • Consult with other members of the rehabilitation team.
  • Adapt program and/or plan of care according to patient needs.
  • Promote a safe environment and enforce elimination of fire and safety hazards.
  • Order supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Clean, maintain, identify, and report the need for repair of equipment.
  • Prioritize patient service, ensuring residents and families receive high-quality care.
  • Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and application of appropriate tests and measures.
  • Synthesize information and interpret examination findings to establish a diagnosis, identify impairments, determine predicted level of improvement and time required, identify precautions/contraindications, and design a plan of care.
  • Develop appropriate treatment goals and methods in collaboration with the patient and caregivers.
  • Implement the speech language pathology treatment plan.
  • Complete all related documentation and record keeping.
  • Perform Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) if trained and competent.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instruct patients in their use.
  • Facilitate identification of hearing deficits and refer for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and/or personal amplification.
  • Select appropriate activities suited to the individual's physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
  • Instruct patients in skills and techniques required for participation in therapeutic activities.
  • Evaluate patient progress, attitudes, and behavior as related to rehabilitative potential.
  • Perform routine reexamination as needed/required to modify/progress plan of treatment.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
