About The Position

Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Speech Pathologist (Casual/PRN) to join their team in Malvern, PA. The role involves providing speech and feeding evaluations and therapy for patients ranging in age from birth to 17, with a variety of diagnoses. They are also an early intervention partner with Delaware’s Birth to Three Early Intervention Program, offering clinic-based services. Coverage needs include weekends.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or its equivalent from an ASHA-accredited university required.
  • Minimum of three (3) to six (6) months experience required. New graduates will be considered based on educational experiences.
  • State of Pennsylvania Speech Language Pathologist License required upon hire. Compact licensure is acceptable for primary and secondary licensure when the practitioner is eligible and maintains an active home-state license in a Compact state.
  • State of Delaware Speech Language Pathologist Licensure required (Must submit license or proof of application submission within 2 weeks of job acceptance, but this second license is not required to be active at the start of employment).
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) required upon hire.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 6 months of date of hire and must be maintained for duration of employment.
  • PA clearances are required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Member of professional specialty organizations (ASHA, State Speech and Hearing Assoc.) preferred.
  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatrics preferred.
  • Clinical affiliation and/or work experience in pediatric feeding and swallowing preferred.
  • Experience with physically and/or mentally challenged populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides discipline specific patient examination, evaluation, intervention, documentation, parent/caregiver education, communication, and coordination of care with medical/clinical staff and outside agencies as appropriate within the discipline specific scope of practice and the guidelines designated by the department and the Delaware Valley policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates in departmental education activities in order to expand knowledge of patient populations and evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: pediatrics and adolescents. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of neonates as required by assignment.
  • Able to provide speech-language pathology services to a variety of patient types with recognition of his/her own limitations while seeking appropriate opportunities for discussion and resources as needed.
  • Completes timely documentation as required by departmental policy #7980.3.3, Joint Commission, and CARF standards.
  • Attends meetings related to patient treatment and contributes to discussion as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Consults with other services, families, and outside agencies to recommend durable medical equipment, home/school modifications and transitional therapy program prior to discharge from therapy.
  • Maintains knowledge of and familiarity with insurance referral/authorization process and documentation requirements related to therapy services.
  • Completes all mandatory training; may include, but not limited to safety, infection control, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, CPR and program specific respiratory training.
  • When required by assignment, participates in weekend/holiday inpatient coverage rotation.
