The Speech & Language Pathologist works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors, and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment. This role provides medically related therapy services to ensure residents attain or maintain their highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being, prioritizing resident choice and comfort. All services must align with facility policies, quality improvement guidelines, and relevant regulations. The Speech & Language Pathologist is an integral part of resident-centered care and team-based management, participating in daily life activities within their assigned household. SEM Haven emphasizes a resident-centered approach based on resident choice, viewing the organization as a family that includes residents, staff, and their families. The primary goal is to support each member. Staff members are expected to provide residents with support, friendship, and kindness, enabling them to live as independently as they wish. A core function is to treat everyone with respect, recognizing that all individuals are equally important. As part of the family team, staff members are responsible for performing necessary tasks to maintain life within the household, within their knowledge and training, which may include assisting with food preparation/serving, tidying up, trash removal, cleaning spills, transporting residents, attending household meetings/learning circles, and fulfilling simple resident requests.
