About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation in Lakeway, TX is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for a PRN position. This role will train to cover both their inpatient rehabilitation unit and their Day Neuro program. The candidate will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to treat medically complex patients with conditions such as stroke, brain injury, SCI, cancer, and other acquired or progressive neurological diagnoses. Patients may present with co-morbidities including aphasia, cognitive-communication deficits, motor speech disorders, and dysphagia. The ideal candidate is patient-centered, possesses strong swallowing and neurological rehab skills, and works well in a team setting. Recent graduates with previous experience in a rehab setting are welcome. No CFY opportunities are available at this time. Shift minimum requirements include working 2 weekend days per month, totaling a minimum of 24 shifts per year.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required
CCC-SLP certification from ASHA required
TX-SLP certification from the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology required
BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
Dysphagia experience required.

Nice To Haves

3+ years of outpatient experience with adult neuro preferred.
LSVT/SPEAK OUT certification preferred.
Working knowledge and familiarity with AAC preferred.
NMES for swallowing (AmpCare preferred).

Responsibilities

Evaluates all assigned patients and develops, implements and modifies treatment plan in accordance with the patient’s need and physician direction.
Responsible for delegation and direction of all discipline-specific therapy services for those assigned patients.
Ensures the design of functional and patient-centered treatment programs allowing for an effective return to community and prior level of function.
Serves as an educator of patients, families, students, co-workers and self.
Performs other professional duties associated with the care of the patient, development of discipline-specific therapy services and design of program delivery.
Evaluate the patient's level of functioning and develop an individualized treatment plan aligned with patient and family goals.
Participate in discharge planning including placement, patient and family education, and adaptive equipment.
Work closely with an interdisciplinary team model.
Perform standardized assessments for disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice and fluency disorders to create an individualized and patient-centered plan of care.
Perform clinical swallow evaluations and interpret Modified Barium Swallow evaluations in order to safely determine a diet and individualized plan of care.
Plan and deliver effective patient and family training to address safety concerns and facilitate carryover into the home and community.
Participate in monthly speech trainings and CEU’s related to speech pathology.
Market and promote speech services to the community in order to grow the speech program in Central Texas.
