This position is responsible for providing speech therapy services, including the evaluation and treatment of speech and language disorders, swallowing disorders, and performing video fluoroscopy swallowing studies. The Speech Language Pathologist serves as a resource for staff regarding participants with communication, speech, and swallowing difficulties. Key duties involve assessing patient swallowing, speech, language, and feeding dysfunction, conducting evaluations within 48 hours of receiving an MD order, and determining patient and family needs related to cognition, swallowing, and speech/language function. The role requires discussing goals with patients and families, developing comprehensive care plans, and implementing therapeutic interventions to restore function and enhance quality of life. This includes planning individual therapy, establishing treatment priorities and goals with time frames, and performing appropriate clinical tests and measurements. The therapist must prepare patients for treatment, ensure thorough documentation of all clinical services, maintain discipline-specific competencies, and keep statistical records. The role also involves determining equipment and supply needs within budget resources and complying with all organizational policies and procedures.
