About The Position

The Pallotta School is an out-of-district placement for kids ages 5-13 requiring a therapeutic day school placement, residential-education placement, or extended evaluation. Students at the Pallotta School have emotional and behavioral regulation challenges, may have experienced trauma, and benefit from individualized and differentiated models of academic instruction. The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) works directly with students and families with SLP services outlined on the students’ Individual Education Plan (IEP), as well as assesses the needs for school-wide supports and consults with the educational teams to increase student access to classroom-based tools. The SLP will conduct Speech & Language evaluations as requested. The SLP will offer input regarding the speech and language needs of clients in other Programs of Italian Home when assigned. The SLP will work closely with the educational and treatment team, including family and caregivers or outside providers, to ensure the student/client needs are addressed and will ensure all students/clients receive the highest quality of care. The SLP is focused on helping students achieve success and reach their fullest potential and independence. Because of the overlapping nature of the learning disabilities and behavior disorders of the students, responsibilities are broad and include generic responsibilities shared by all professional staff.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) required
  • Massachusetts DESE Certification in “Speech Language and Hearing Disorders”
  • Licensed by MA Board of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle safely, strongly preferred
  • Ensure treatment is in line with agency standards, training, and philosophy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential in conjunction with computerized literacy
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Must be receptive and responsive to supervision and professional development
  • Maintains calm and responds to emergencies quickly and safely
  • Skilled at working in a stressful and fast paced environment
  • Physical ability to provide therapeutic physical restraint
  • Visual and hearing acuity to perform job related functions

Responsibilities

  • Conduct SLP evaluations for extended evaluation placements, 3-year re-evaluations, and otherwise as needed
  • Provide direct and consultative speech and language services to a small caseload of K-8 students. Interventions with clients include both receptive and expressive language, articulation, fluency, voice and pragmatic skills.
  • Develop IEP goals in collaboration with educational team
  • Participate in IEP and quarterly meetings and prepare all necessary documentation
  • Run classroom-based or small pull-out groups for service delivery or school-wide interventions as needed or requested
  • Work as part of multidisciplinary team and attend regular team meetings to discuss progress
  • Structure interviews with the child, family, and collaterals and provide leadership and modeling for strong teamwork
  • Communicate regularly with collaterals to obtain updated clinical information and provide updates about progress in treatment
  • Option to supervise SLP student interns if desired
  • Provide behavioral crisis support as needed
  • Prepare and facilitate staff trainings
  • Attend weekly individual supervision, weekly team meeting, and mandatory on-boarding and annual trainings
  • Participate fully in supervision and respond to directives provided by supervisor; Be receptive to feedback
  • Follow all program policies and procedures
  • Provide lunch or recess coverage for classrooms as needed or as requested
