About The Position

The Contract Special Education Assessment Teacher is responsible for conducting comprehensive special education evaluations to determine student eligibility for special education services and to support the development of appropriate educational programming. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, the assessor administers standardized assessments, interprets evaluation results, prepares legally compliant reports, and participates in eligibility and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings. This position is contracted on an as-needed basis and offers flexibility based on assessment needs.

Requirements

  • Valid Special Education Teaching Credential (or equivalent state certification).
  • Authorization to conduct special education assessments in accordance with state regulations.
  • Experience administering and interpreting standardized educational assessments.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and applicable state special education regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience conducting special education assessments in a school setting.
  • Experience writing legally compliant assessment reports and participating in IEP meetings.
  • Familiarity with a variety of standardized assessment tools and data-based decision-making practices.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational and educational assessments for students referred for special education evaluation.
  • Review educational records, intervention data, and relevant background information.
  • Administer, score, and interpret standardized and curriculum-based assessments.
  • Complete assessment reports that meet federal, state, and local special education requirements.
  • Determine eligibility in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in IEP, eligibility, and multidisciplinary team meetings to present evaluation findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with administrators, general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families throughout the assessment process.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with timelines and procedural safeguards.
  • Communicate assessment results clearly and professionally to families and school personnel.
  • Stay current with special education laws, assessment practices, and professional standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with applicable laws and district policies.
