About The Position

The SPED Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students, ensuring compliance with Mississippi IDEA regulations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support student success. This role involves direct instruction, progress monitoring, and administrative tasks related to special education services.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Mississippi IDEA regulations.
  • Ability to write benchmark and goal aligned IEPs.
  • Proficiency in conducting IEP reviews.
  • Skill in teaching and supervising activities in special education and inclusion settings.
  • Ability to provide IEP goal and accommodation sheets to other teachers.
  • Timely completion of paperwork.
  • Compliance with IDEA timelines for evaluation, IEP, and reporting.
  • Ability to record and communicate student progress to parents quarterly.
  • Frequent conferral with general education teachers and other service providers.
  • Biweekly monitoring of students’ IEP goals.
  • Regular and punctual reporting to work location.
  • Timely notification of supervisor or designee of impending absence.
  • Adherence to regulations in the general education teachers’ job description.
  • Ability to promote a positive image of the school district program.

Responsibilities

  • Writes benchmark and goal aligned IEPs for students.
  • Conducts IEP reviews as needed to amend student schedules or accommodations, to add or revise FBAs and/or behavior plans and for all other reasons stated in rules and regulations.
  • Becomes familiar with Mississippi IDEA regulations and adheres to them.
  • Participates in IEP reviews with special education teachers in upper and lower adjacent grades and plans a smooth transition for students for the next year.
  • Teaches and supervises activities in special education and inclusion settings.
  • Provides IEP goal and accommodation sheets, for each student on the special education teacher's roster, to all teachers who teach the students.
  • Completes paperwork by deadlines given by building principal and/or Student Support Office.
  • Complies with all IDEA timelines for evaluation, IEP, and reporting.
  • Records student progress on IEP and sends it to parents at least quarterly.
  • Confers frequently with general education teachers and other service providers about Special Education students.
  • Monitors progress of students’ IEP goals biweekly.
  • Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
  • Follows all regulations set forth in the general education teachers’ job description.
  • Promotes a positive image of the school district program to the public.
  • Performs other duties/responsibilities as directed by the building level principal or Director of Student Support Services.
