About The Position

Multiple positions available throughout the district, including part time positions. Days per year: 175. Schedule will follow the school calendar.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent organizational and student supervision skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to work with students with disabilities.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good computer knowledge, typing and time management skills.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and deal with parents and teacher needs.
  • Ability to interact with many grade levels, teachers, and principals.
  • Ability to deal with unexpected schedule changes (i.e. stress related to job sites, etc.)
  • Handles decision-making and stress appropriately and professionally.
  • Respects confidential information appropriately.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with classroom/building policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lift and assist students with necessary needs.
  • Ability to work well with children, adults and community members.

Responsibilities

  • Works with individual or small groups of students as directed by the teacher, in the following academic areas: math, reading, language, writing, spelling, social studies, art, music, PE, etc.
  • Works with individual or small groups of students with non-teaching activities: supervision of breaks, lunchroom, errands, chores, field trips, community access activities, self-care needs, and independent living skills as directed classroom teachers.
  • Assists students in daily living activities as outlined on the IEP which may include changing diapers, assisting with bathroom needs, feeding, and performing health care procedures delegated to non-medical staff.
  • Assists the teacher with behavioral intervention procedures as requested.
  • Assists the teacher in the development and organization of appropriate learning materials and activities.
  • Assists the teacher in developing learning centers, games, etc.
  • Assists the teacher in maintaining the physical appearance and order of the classroom, supply room and material storage center.
  • Prepares written communications, (i.e. notes home, messages to other staff, notice of meetings, newsletter, etc.) under the direction and approval of teachers.
  • Assists certified staff in preparation of written reports/forms (i.e., IEP progress reports, inventories, requisitions, etc.) as requested by the teachers.
  • Maintains student information forms or data sheets.
  • Reproduces and files curriculum materials, reports, etc., as requested and approved by teachers.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education.
