The SPED Classroom Assistant supports the teacher and students with lessons, activities, student services, and supervision. This is a 10-month position. The role reports to the Director of SPED and works under the direction of the Resource Teacher.

Requirements

• Associate degree or higher, or 32 credit hours or higher.
• At least two years of experience working with urban children.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in coordinating lessons and activities.
• Assist the teacher in maintaining discipline.
• Assist students with personal hygiene.
• Provide lunchroom and playground supervision.
• Maintain student service logs.
• Provide services to students.
• Assemble small groups and work individually with students.
• Collaborate with general education teachers.
• Attend required staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
• Work as a team member and under the direction of the Resource Teacher.
• Perform other functions assigned by the supervisor.
• Follow school policies and dress professionally.
