The Specimen Processing Technician I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. Functions performed may include, but are not limited to, A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. All duties must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered. The candidate must be able to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily. This position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction. The candidate will face various customer demands and must exhibit great flexibility. While the majority of work is performed on the night shift, availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime is required based on staffing needs. The department operates in a production environment with a strong emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times. The role requires working in a biohazard environment while practicing good safety habits. The position involves adhering to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures, keeping the work area neat and clean, and demonstrating strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to change are essential.
