About The Position

The candidate will serve as a Specimen Processing Technician responsible for general support functions within the specimen processing department. This position requires a strong data entry background and involves sitting and accessioning for 8-hour shifts. The role operates in a fast-paced production environment where accuracy, flexibility, and adherence to safety and compliance standards are critical to maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Data entry background with the ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
  • Basic understanding of computers.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
  • Previous laboratory experience is preferred, though no experience is required.
  • Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory is preferred.
  • Previous hospital laboratory or production environment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accessioning tasks involving sitting and data entry for 8 hours.
  • Learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.
  • Adapt to day-to-day changes and manage various customer demands.
  • Work effectively in a production environment with an emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times.
  • Operate within a biohazard environment while practicing proper safety habits.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

  • Maintain a neat and clean work area.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive environment.
  • Maintain flexibility and availability for night shifts, weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime based on staffing needs.
  • Serve as a Specimen Processing Technician responsible for general support functions within the specimen processing department.
  • Perform A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
  • Learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered.
