About The Position

The Specimen Processing Technician I performs general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, including specimen presort, pickup, delivery, centrifugation, and data entry. Operating in a fast-paced production environment, the role ensures test orders comply with regulations while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and productivity. This position is critical to quality and customer satisfaction. Flexibility is required to handle changing daily demands. The department operates as a production environment with an emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times. The candidate will work in a biohazard environment practicing safety habits, maintain a neat and clean work area, communicate effectively with all levels of staff, adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies, and foster a positive, adaptable work environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic understanding of computers required.
  • Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing.
  • Previous experience in a clinical, hospital, or production environment is preferred.
  • Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
  • Perform specimen presort, pickup, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
  • Perform imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
  • Ensure test orders comply with regulations.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by clients.
  • Learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.
  • Practice safety habits in a biohazard environment.
  • Maintain a neat and clean work area.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies.
  • Foster a positive, adaptable work environment.
