About The Position

The Pre-Analytical Assistant I is responsible for general support functions within the Technical Operations Department. This role involves a variety of manual tasks related to specimen handling and processing to ensure quality and timely delivery to laboratory departments. The position requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment.

Requirements

  • Understanding of clinical department requirements regarding specimen types, quantity, handling, and delivery.

  • Must have some flexibility with regard to work schedule.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
  • Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with mainframe computers.

Responsibilities

  • Sorting, racking, pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory.
  • Specimen storage.
  • Centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens.
  • Learning job duties and understanding how functions in Tech Ops and Specimen Processing impact technical departments and result quality.
  • Identifying and resolving or forwarding specimen-related problems (e.g., specimen types, missing information).
  • Researching test order information using translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
  • Meeting quality and production standards within 6 months of training completion.
  • Completing all required written documentation legibly and within the assigned time frame.
  • Reporting to work on time and following attendance guidelines.
  • Supporting department performance during coworker absences.
  • Learning additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing for progression.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
