About The Position

The Pre-Analytical Assistant I is responsible for general support functions within the Technical Operations Department. This role involves a variety of manual tasks related to specimen handling and processing to ensure the quality and timely delivery of results to technical departments. The position requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic production environment.

Requirements

  • Medical background preferred
  • Medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory preferred
  • Previous experience in a production environment preferred
  • Familiarity with mainframe computers preferred

Responsibilities

  • Sorting specimens
  • Racking specimens
  • Pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory
  • Specimen storage
  • Centrifugation of specimens
  • Aliquotting specimens
  • Running sorters in archive mode (training may be provided)
  • Identifying and resolving or escalating issues with specimen types or missing information
  • Researching test order information using translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services
  • Meeting quality and production standards
  • Completing written documentation accurately and on time
  • Reporting to work on time and following attendance guidelines
  • Supporting departmental staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime
  • Learning additional functions within Technical Operations and Specimen Processing
  • Performing other duties as assigned
