About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Pharmacy Technician II at our Proprium Pharmacy in Chesapeake, VA. This is a Full Time (40 hrs/wk) position with a Rotating Days shift, typically from 8am-5pm or 8:30am-5:30pm, with occasional Saturdays. This role operates within a Call Center environment where the primary responsibility is speaking to patients and setting up their medication orders. The department does not fill or dispense medications; instead, it focuses on processing and setting up medication orders. The ideal candidate will be adept at multitasking and receptive to ongoing feedback from leadership. The position involves performing technician responsibilities in specialized areas of pharmacy practice under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. It requires advanced technical skills, ownership of the work area, and the ability to work independently in defined specialized areas. Training in advanced Specialist Pharmacy Technician job functions is provided. The role may involve assuming responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced specialist job positions, participating in new employee training, and filling/delivering medications as required by the specialty position. Ensuring adequate supplies for patient care, triaging and escalating issues outside the technician's scope, using appropriate systems for patient information processing, maintaining quality assurance, and operating pharmacy equipment appropriately are also key duties. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • A pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)
  • 2 Years Pharmacy Experience (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
  • Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
