About The Position

The Specialty Pharmacy Manager provides integrated support to patients and physicians by offering a 'hands-on' approach to total quality patient care. This includes a full continuum of medication administration, from preparing medications to giving pharmacological information, monitoring patient drug therapies, and providing adherence support. The role involves planning and managing the pharmacy in compliance with all legal and regulatory parameters, ensuring it operates as an efficient and profitable business center. The manager is an active member of the Quality Management Committee and is responsible for building a high-quality, service-oriented pharmacy team. This includes directing, coordinating, and evaluating pharmacy staff, and carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. This encompasses interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, succession planning, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. The manager also assures staff training and competency, and complies with Human Resources policies, retaining responsibility for performance even when delegating policy components. Collaboration with Shields and hospital partner staff is key for developing and implementing ideas for high-quality, cost-effective services, including clinical management programs and adherence initiatives. The role involves implementing record systems and processes, overseeing inventory procedures, and guaranteeing compliance with state and federal regulations, accrediting body standards, corporate policies, and performance standards. The manager oversees pharmacy patient services, policy implementation, patient satisfaction, and performance improvement, and participates directly in pharmacy services as required. Management of compliance to the Company formulary and staff allocation is also a responsibility, along with overall management of all pharmacy personnel, potentially directing subordinate managers/supervisors.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or BS in Pharmacy
  • Licensed Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • 1+ years' experience as a retail and/or clinical pharmacy manager

Responsibilities

  • Oversees pharmacy patient services directly or through a qualified individual with responsibility for policy implementation, patient satisfaction, and performance improvement
  • Participates directly in pharmacy services as required
  • Manages compliance to the Company formulary as applicable
