About The Position

American Farm Bureau Insurance Services, Inc. (AFBIS, Inc.) is looking for a Specialty Crop Claim Representative to work remotely in the Grand Rapids, MI and surrounding area. As a member of our Claims Team, you will be responsible for performing loss adjustment, pre-acceptance and quality control activities for Crop Hail and Federally Reinsured Crop Insurance products. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of crop insurance experience with emphasis in the claims area.
  • The ability to maintain the required adjuster certifications and licenses.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy information and applicable procedures.
  • Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft word and excel.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical, organizational, multitasking, and time management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough understanding of Specialty Crop MPCI forms, endorsements, and approved claims adjusting procedures.
  • Crop insurance experience with emphasis on the listed specialty crops.
  • Knowledge of farming practices and crops typical to the territory.

Responsibilities

  • Stay current on crop insurance claim procedures, focusing on specialty crops (e.g., Nursery, Whole Farm, Hybrid Seed, Fruit policies).
  • Coordinate and oversee adjusters to ensure timely and accurate claim settlements across regions.
  • Partner with regional supervisors to assign, track, and monitor specialty crop claims.
  • Provide guidance to agents, adjusters, and insureds on policy interpretation and FCIC/MPCI guidelines.
  • Train adjusters on proper loss adjustment procedures, including documentation and specialty crop requirements.
  • Conduct claim adjustments and perform specialty crop quality control reviews as needed.
  • Review, audit, approve, and submit claims to the Office Claims Group.
  • Troubleshoot and escalate system issues while demonstrating advanced proficiency in company software tools.
