About The Position

The Los Angeles Unified School District/Division of Special Education, District Office of Transition Services is seeking a Specialist, Transition Services (38G, School Support Administrator, 0515). This role is crucial for developing and delivering professional development district-wide in secondary transition, ensuring the provision of transition services through various means, and negotiating linkages with community agencies to meet transition goals for students with disabilities. The specialist will use data to analyze trends, develop and monitor transition programs, and foster inter-agency partnerships to enhance post-secondary independence and employability for students. Collaboration with various stakeholders, supervision of staff, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential requiring a bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, that included student teaching
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Master Plan and Multicultural coursework

  • Knowledge of the legal requirements regarding transition services for students with disabilities
  • Knowledge and experience with secondary instruction and vocational education methods, models, and curricula
  • Experience in secondary special education or special education related services
  • Experience with organizing and presenting professional development

  • Ability to travel to sites throughout the District

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of the District Office of Transition Services (DOTS) leadership team
  • Develops and delivers effective professional development District-wide in the areas of secondary transition
  • Provides direction and support in connecting standards-based instruction and transition services
  • Ensures provision of transition services through classroom instruction, related services, and community experiences
  • Negotiates linkages with community agencies to meet transition goals for students with disabilities with a variety of developmental strengths and needs
  • Uses data to analyze trends, and develops, implements, and monitors transition programs that result in higher levels of post-secondary independence and employability for students with disabilities
  • Assists in developing and maintaining effective collaborative inter-agency partnerships
  • Provides other functions as necessary to achieve and maintain compliance with legal requirements for students with disabilities, beginning at age 14
  • Collaborates with District offices, regions, families, and community partners
  • Supervises and evaluates certificated and classified staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned
