Senior Software Engineer (PBY)
About The Position
L3Harris Integrated Mission Systems is seeking a Software Engineer to help develop high-assurance encryption products. The role translates requirements into working, maintainable solutions for Integrated Systems & Encryption and applies technical proficiency across the software development life cycle. The engineer gathers requirements, works with stakeholders to prioritize and scope tasks, and serves as a key member of a Scrum team, contributing to product and infrastructure development direction and strategy. The position is based on-site in Palm Bay, Florida, and includes a paid, extended deployment to Camden, New Jersey, for the first three months of employment. The schedule is 9/80: employees work nine days in each 14-day period, totaling 80 hours, and have every other Friday off. Travel is approximately 20%.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of prior relevant experience; or a graduate degree and at least 2 years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 8 years of prior related experience.
- At least 3 years of software design and development experience using C/C++ programming languages.
- Active U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
Nice To Haves
- Object-oriented design and implementation experience.
- Exposure to software modeling and UML tools such as IBM Rhapsody or MagicDraw/Cameo.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python.
- Familiarity or expertise in the Rust programming language.
- Experience developing embedded software systems.
- Experience with Information Assurance and/or cryptography.
- Experience with NSA Type 1 certification or other software certification such as DO-178.
Responsibilities
- Investigate root causes of complex issues and implement solutions independently or with a multidisciplinary team.
- Apply computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis concepts and principles to develop software for target hardware.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering team members to develop and evaluate hardware-software interfaces, operational performance requirements, and overall system design.
- Support and participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, hardware-software integration, and formal testing.
- Develop software test plans, procedures, and other relevant technical documentation.
- Use modeling tools and equipment to establish operating data, conduct experimental tests, prototype, and evaluate results.
- Participate in peer reviews and identify, track, and repair defects.
- Implement software for embedded real-time operating systems using a variety of languages, primarily C/C++, Rust, and Python.
- Gather requirements and work with stakeholders to prioritize and scope tasks as a member of a Scrum team.
- Contribute to product and infrastructure development direction and strategy.
- Travel approximately 20%.
