About The Position

The City of Pico Rivera is seeking a temporary-hourly Specialist/REACH Classroom Leader for its after-school program, REACH (Recreation and Education Accelerating Children's Hopes). This grant-funded program, in partnership with El Rancho Unified School District (ERUSD), aims to enhance children's academic performance, reduce absenteeism, improve behavior, and re-engage them in education through homework assistance, mentoring, performing arts, and recreational activities in a safe, supervised environment. The position is expected to last until June 2027, aligning with the grant program's duration and the ERUSD calendar. The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., with modified hours on Wednesdays starting at 12:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent, and have two (2) years of college (48 semester units or 60 quarter units), or Associate's (AA) degree or higher, or the ability to pass an Instructional Aide Written Exam with a minimum score of 70%.
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License throughout the course of employment and/or California Identification Card.
  • Must possess and maintain certification in Infant/Child/Adult CPR, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and Community First Aid and Safety from a nationally accredited organization at time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant experience working with children and developing and implementing programs to help them improve their academic and social skills is desirable.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of students at all times.
  • Maintain clean and organized classroom/work areas.
  • Facilitate in the delivery of the LitART Literacy Curriculum including the literacy, math, enrichment, recreational, and homework support activities.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities including training workshops, coaching, and facilitated meetings.
  • Employ positive classroom management and discipline techniques.
  • Communicate with parents and volunteers as needed.
  • Record and maintain daily attendance records and assist in the sign-in/out process.
  • Consistently support the mission of the REACH Program.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
