About The Position

A Specialist Packer adheres to customer requirements and ensures procedures are followed in assigned Value-Added/Specialty packing areas in Outbound Shipping. The role examines packaging and item contents for conformance with company specifications, processes outbound freight and parcel orders according to established specifications, and prepares shipments and related documentation. The position may also support other Value-Added shipping areas or other areas within the shipping department based on workload and assignment.

Requirements

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organizational, attention-to-detail, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong reading and writing skills.
• Ability to work proficiently and independently, as well as in a team environment.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and participate in team lifts for weights exceeding 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand for the entire shift.

Nice To Haves

• Warehouse experience preferred.
• Highly preferred experience in Hazmat, Export, and Freight/LTL shipping within an AS9120 and/or FTZ-zoned environment.
• Knowledge of operating SAP.

Responsibilities

• Examine packaging and item contents for conformance with company specifications.
• Follow DOT and OSHA requirements for labeling hazardous materials.
• Read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), invoices, bills of lading, shipping statements, and other shipping documents.
• Affix shipping and carrier labels to packages.
• Compare picked items with customer orders and other identifying information.
• Read shipping orders to determine the quantity and type of transport required.
• Process outbound freight and parcel shipments according to established specifications.
• Affix international paperwork required by customs and carriers.
• Arrange or expedite shipping details, including customs declarations, routing, carrier scheduling, and pickups.
• May train in other Value-Added shipping areas to support workload fluctuations.
• Assist in other shipping department areas when assigned or needed, based on work volume.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
