About The Position

A Specialist Packer adheres to customer requirements and ensures procedures are followed in assigned Value-Added/Specialty packing areas within Outbound Shipping. The role involves preparing and processing outbound freight and parcel shipments, checking products and packaging, applying shipping labels and required documentation, and coordinating shipping details. The employee may be trained in other Value-Added shipping areas or assigned to other shipping department work based on workload.

Requirements

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office applications.
Strong organizational, attention-to-detail, and problem-solving skills.
Strong reading and writing skills.
Ability to work proficiently and independently, as well as in a team environment.
Basic math skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and participate in team lifts for heavier items.
Ability to stand for the entire shift.

Nice To Haves

Warehouse experience.
Experience in hazardous materials, export, and freight/LTL shipping within an AS9120 and/or FTZ-zoned environment.
SAP operating knowledge.

Responsibilities

Examine packaging and item contents for conformance with company specifications.
Follow DOT and OSHA requirements for labeling hazardous materials.
Read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), invoices, bills of lading, shipping statements, and other related shipping documents.
Affix shipping and carrier labels to packages.
Compare pulled items with customer orders and other identifying data.
Read shipping orders to determine shipment quantity and required transport type.
Process outbound freight and parcel orders according to established specifications.
Affix international paperwork required by customs and carriers.
Arrange or expedite shipping details, including customs declarations, routing, carrier scheduling, and pickups.
Support other Value-Added shipping areas as trained and assist elsewhere in the shipping department when assigned or needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
