About The Position

Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division is currently seeking a Specialist Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Raleigh, NC. This position will be a hybrid office (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) role as long as you live within 50 miles of our Raleigh, NC facility. Relocation benefits will be provided within the United States only. The Specialist Mechanical Engineer is a technical leader responsible for the mechanical design and development of critical power infrastructure products from concept through launch. This role serves as the mechanical design owner for complex new product development programs, providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, driving innovation, and collaborating with global cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet customer and business objectives. The Specialist Mechanical Engineer influences engineering best practices, advances mechanical and thermal design technologies, and helps drive continuous improvement across the global engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution with minimum 8 years work experience in mechanical design OR:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years work experience in mechanical design OR:
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of 2 years work experience in mechanical design.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 8 years of work experience in mechanical design of multi-kilowatt power conversion equipment, switchgear or power systems.
  • 3 years of work experience in a new product development organization.
  • Experience designing products for power conversion, energy storage, critical power infrastructure, or data center applications.
  • Familiarity with datacenter power infrastructure, including transformers, switchgear, UPS’s, PDUs and RPPs.
  • Familiarity with Li-ion and lead-acid battery systems.
  • 7+ years of experience with 3D CAD modeling and the ability to develop 2D drawings and assembly documentation that clearly communicate design intent.
  • Strong technical knowledge of sheet metal part design and expertise in thermal/stress analysis.
  • Experienced in designing products to meet UL/CSA safety requirements and working with UL/CSA for certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and launch of critical power infrastructure products that meet customer requirements and Eaton commitments for safety, quality, reliability, cost, and schedule.
  • Own the mechanical design of assigned products, making engineering decisions based on analysis, testing, DFMA principles, cost targets, and cross-functional input.
  • Develop mechanical systems and components using 3D CAD, engineering analysis, prototype validation, and product testing to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to develop next-generation UPS and energy storage solutions for mission-critical applications such as data centers and healthcare facilities.
  • Drive product architecture, system layout, and detailed design decisions while balancing performance, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability, and cost objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership through design reviews, mentorship, and application of engineering best practices throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Support prototype builds, verification and validation testing, customer deployments, and regulatory certification activities, including UL compliance.
  • Identify and implement improvements to engineering processes, tools, and test methodologies to enhance product quality, efficiency, and speed to market.
