About The Position

The Distribution Support Specialist II performs field inspections and verification of Georgia Power's distribution pole infrastructure to support pole attachment audit activities and joint use compliance requirements. This position conducts in-person inspections of distribution poles throughout Georgia Power's service territory, verifying pole data, documenting attachment information, and identifying discrepancies in field conditions. The role also provides general distribution support through high-level data validation, documentation, analysis, and participation in special projects as assigned. This position requires extensive travel, independent work, strong attention to detail, and adherence to Georgia Power safety, operational, and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred in Distribution system operations or inspections
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred in Utility pole infrastructure or attachment verification
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred in Joint use or pole attachment processes
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred in Electrical mapping or asset data management
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred in Field auditing, surveying, or data collection
  • Demonstrated commitment to Safety Excellence
  • Knowledge of Safe Work Practices, Distribution Bulletins, Human Performance principles, Distribution Specifications (including Section O), OSHA, and related standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of distribution operations practices and procedures
  • Proven ability to be innovative
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize high-profile or sensitive issues and respond appropriately without prompting
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, diagrams, and technical information
  • Demonstrated experience or ability to quickly learn applications that include JUMS, DistGIS / DistView (or equivalent mapping systems), NJUNS, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access), and Other systems or applications as required

  • Have no major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the past 12 months and no pending major violations at the time of application
  • Consent to continuous monitoring of their Motor Vehicle Record

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person inspections of distribution poles to verify pole data, ownership, configuration, and attachment information
  • Identify, document, and report discrepancies between field conditions and system records
  • Capture photographs and detailed field notes to support audit documentation and data validation
  • Verify pole tags and identification markers
  • Document inaccessible poles and provide appropriate justification
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and supporting documentation
  • Identify and report safety hazards, damaged infrastructure, or emergency conditions
  • Support data verification, validation, and cleanup activities related to pole and attachment records
  • Update distribution system records and mapping data based on field findings
  • Prepare maps, reports, and supporting documentation related to inspections and audits
  • Use data analysis to identify trends, risks, or improvement opportunities
  • Support compliance, regulatory, and joint use initiatives through assigned activities
  • Participate in special projects related to distribution operations, asset data, or joint use
  • Participate in required training, meetings, and storm response activities
  • Comply with all Georgia Power safety rules, driving policies, and operational procedures
