About The Position

The Senior Specialist, GIS/Environmental Planning serves as the primary technical authority responsible for spatial data management, GIS analysis, map production, and environmental planning across AngloGold Ashanti’s Southern Nevada projects. This role integrates multi-disciplinary environmental datasets (biological, hydrological, cultural, air quality, land tenure, and disturbance footprints) to support National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, baseline technical studies, permit compliance, conservation banking, and life-of-mine land use planning. As a key environmental technical authority across Nevada Projects, the Senior Specialist partners closely with Mine Planning, Exploration Geology, Civil Engineering, Hydrogeology, and Community Affairs to ensure seamless spatial data alignment, accurate regulatory reporting, and robust environmental stewardship.

  • GISP (Certified GIS Professional) certification and/or FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification (Drone License) preferred.
  • Minimum 4 to 7+ years of progressive professional GIS experience in environmental planning, natural resource management, mining, or infrastructure project development.
  • Demonstrated track record managing enterprise GIS databases and producing agency-ready cartographic packages for BLM / NEPA environmental documents in the Great Basin or Mojave Desert regions.
  • Proven experience configuring mobile field data collection tools, handling complex land-tenure/mining claim layers, and integrating third-party environmental datasets.
  • In-depth understanding of environmental permitting processes in Nevada (BLM Plan of Operations, NDEP Reclamation and Water Pollution Control Permits, USFWS Biological Opinions).
  • Solid knowledge of Great Basin / Mojave Desert environmental constraints, sensitive species habitat mapping, and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) frameworks.
  • Practical understanding of mining operational footprints, exploration disturbance, access roads, and mineral estate boundaries.
  • Advanced mastery of ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise/Online, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst/3D Analyst, and Trimble GPS software.
  • Exceptional cartographic design skills with expertise in spatial analysis, multi-criteria overlay modeling, and viewshed/watershed analyses.
  • Working knowledge of Python (ArcPy) or ModelBuilder for workflow automation and spatial data processing.
