We are currently seeking a Specialist Engineer who specializes in the design of CANDU Reactivity Control Units (i.e., Reactivity Mechanisms), providing strategic technical leadership, defining engineering approaches, and serving as a primary technical interface with organizations inside and outside the company on complex, large‑scale refurbishment and new build nuclear projects. Your role acts as a recognized technical leader in the design of CANDU reactor components, systems, and structures across complex projects. You will be recognized as a Subject Matter Expert for CANDU Reactivity Control Units and maintain effective technical liaison with internal and external organizations. This position involves providing technical leadership and mentoring of junior, intermediate, and senior engineers, influencing and aligning engineering practice across projects. You will develop new engineering concepts and design modifications to meet functional, regulatory, and lifecycle requirements, and devise and champion new approaches to complex or novel problems within the engineering specialty. The role includes leading the resolution of critical and high‑risk engineering issues, providing timely and defensible engineering solutions/direction, and addressing complex engineering challenges involving conflicting requirements, non‑standard materials, and difficult coordination constraints, establishing technically sound resolutions. You will evaluate and confirm the feasibility, robustness, and technical soundness of proposed engineering methods and approaches, and apply extensive knowledge of engineering precedents and related disciplines to establish technical judgment and direction. Providing guidance on applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements related to the discipline is also a key part of the role. You will perform critical reviews of design documents, calculations, drawings, and analysis reports, resolving complex or precedent‑setting technical issues, and review engineering assessments for the design and integrity of nuclear pressure boundary components. Additionally, you will review design documentation to ensure client requirements are met and initiate any corrective actions as necessary. The Specialist Engineer will support technical and commercial interfaces with the client, define work scope, plan activities, and coordinate engineering work for all design phases within major projects or across projects of considerable scope and complexity. You will support and guide the execution of technical engineering work packages to deliver within approved scope, budget, and schedule, and be responsible for reporting technical progress, risks, and schedule status to technical and project management. Contributions to engineering budgets and technical input for defined work packages are expected. You will participate in the development, interpretation, and advancement of engineering standards and contribute to technical forums within the area of specialty, as well as contributing technical input to operational and strategic planning processes, influencing engineering direction and resource deployment. Participation in the training and development of engineering staff is also a responsibility. This position operates with minimal technical supervision, receiving guidance primarily on overall objectives and critical issues.
