About The Position

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is seeking a Full-Time Special Testing Laboratory Support Specialist to join our team in Gainesville, FL. This position supports laboratory operations by assisting Medical Technologists with product quality control testing, specimen processing, cord blood testing, instrument maintenance, and inventory management to ensure accurate and efficient laboratory services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet and maintain LifeSouth's driver eligibility requirements.
  • Basic computer proficiency and intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Consistent and reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or regulated environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Medical Technologists with product quality control testing for blood products and cellular therapy products.
  • Analyze test results, perform calculations, and document findings under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.
  • Perform routine maintenance and assist with troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
  • Perform DNA extractions and support cord blood testing activities.
  • Receive, process, centrifuge, organize, and prepare laboratory specimens for internal and external testing.
  • Verify specimen identification and accompanying documentation to ensure compliance with testing requirements and quality standards.
  • Maintain retained specimen inventories and rotate samples in accordance with established retention guidelines.
  • Monitor laboratory supply levels and coordinate the replenishment of materials as needed.
  • Prepare and label biohazard containers for proper disposal.
  • Monitor and document refrigerator and freezer temperatures to ensure acceptable storage conditions.
  • Load automated instruments and perform waived testing under the supervision of a Medical Technologist.
  • Assist with the storage and retrieval of specimens maintained in liquid nitrogen freezers, refrigerators, and freezers.
  • Work a schedule that may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
