About The Position

The TCTDA is a quasi-governmental entity whose mission is to “generate and enhance tourism opportunities in Transylvania County”. This includes work associated with the branding and marketing of Transylvania County, as well as efforts to manage the destination to ensure a sustainable and strong local tourism economy. The TCTDA is funded by a 5% tax on short-term overnight accommodations from hotels, short-term rentals, etc. It is similar to a county department as it relates to things like human resources, purchasing, IT, and county policies. It is different in that it operates with a separate budget and the director reports to the TCTDA Board of Directors. JOB SUMMARY This position supports the Tourism Director with the overall administration and operations of the department. The team includes a full-time individual focused on operations and programs associated with the management of the destination, as well as a full-time individual and a full-service marketing partner agency focused on the marketing of the destination. The primary role of this position is to take on projects or aspects of projects related to both the management and marketing of Transylvania County.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite and Google drive/suite/docs
  • Knowledge of social media account management
  • High level attention to detail and organization skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Flexible with willingness to take on whatever is needed at any given moment
  • Ability to work in support of a project coordinator and larger project goals
  • Excellent oral/written communications and listening skills
  • Friendly, enthusiastic, and positive attitude
  • Ability to work nights and weekends on rare occasion as needed
  • Ability to travel in the local county area or surrounding area (less than 10% of hours)
  • Interest in tourism industry and knowledgeable about Transylvania County and surrounding areas
  • Minimum HS Diploma plus 4 years’ experience -OR- Associates degree
  • Experience in a similar role or certain aspects (project coordination, administrative, marketing, tourism, etc.)
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor' Degree in Travel & Tourism Management, hospitality, communications, marketing, business or similar field

Responsibilities

  • Outreach to tourism partners or other key parties to inform about TCTDA programs or collect information.
  • Content research for the website, blogs, adventure guide, etc. to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Assisting with the website content calendar and sourcing user generated content.
  • Assisting with copywriting and social media posting.
  • Work associated with other marketing efforts like media relations, photo/video shoots, and more.
  • Work associated with programs like Leave It Better, Be Waterfall Wise, partner advertising, and grant funding.
  • Other duties as assigned by management
