About The Position

The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is recruiting to fill a maximum of nine (9) positions for its Limited Term (LT) Special Employment Program (SEP). This employment program lasts for up to one year and provides training and work experience for trainees referred from community-based job-training programs to help them increase their employment skills and experience. The workforce development LT SEP is limited to individuals who have not previously participated in EBMUD’s LT SEP program. Applicants must be referred from one of the approved referral agencies. The nine (9) LT SEP placements include placements in Grounds Maintenance, Pipeline/Construction, and Wastewater Maintenance. EBMUD is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Requirements

• Referral from a formal, community-based job-training program.
• Completion of 8th grade education.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must possess physical characteristics to perform a variety of maintenance work including sufficient strength to lift and carry bags of fertilizer or equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and in environments where noxious plants and insects are present.
• Must be willing to work overtime, as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in a pre-apprenticeship program.
• A high school diploma or its equivalent is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform vegetation control, gardening, grounds maintenance, and fire prevention and mitigation work in the upkeep of unimproved land, landscaped areas, and grounds around offices, filter plants, maintenance yards, and other facilities.
• Perform physical labor work required for the construction, maintenance, or repair of facilities and equipment found in a large regional water distribution and wastewater treatment utility.
• Perform work in a variety of work areas including but not limited to grounds maintenance and painting.
