About The Position

Performs screening and comprehensive developmental evaluations of children aged three to five suspected of having a disability as defined by Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). Work involves the administration of tests, assessing student performance from a variety of means. Counsels with parents, teachers, and administration. Conducts conferences, completes reports and collects relevant data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • Two (2) years successful teaching experience at the special education, preschool level required.
  • Two (2) years successful experience administering and interpreting informal and formal assessments appropriate for preschool children required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Individual Education Programs (IEP).
  • Knowledge of Special Education instructional diagnostic techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use specialized assessment and data analysis software.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
  • Bilingual/Biliterate in English and targeted second language if assigned to bilingual program required. Otherwise, bilingual and biliterate in English and targeted second language preferred.
  • Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

  • Bilingual and biliterate in English and targeted second language preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administers pre-academic assessments utilizing all pertinent resources such as observations of parents and preschool teachers or direct assessment of children.
  • Analyze and interpret results of tests, provides input in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP), and assist in placement recommendations while considering the least restrictive environment.
  • Utilize normative data and analyze test findings in the interpretation of diagnostic data.
  • Prepare written assessment reports for students summarizing significant findings.
  • Develop and coordinate an evaluation schedule for students recommended for assessment through the IEP process.
  • Conducts follow-up conferences with parents and school staff regarding recommendations for further action(s).
  • Partners with the school-based and multi-disciplinary evaluation team as needed.
  • Maintains accurate and current records on each student served.
  • Complies with AACPS policies, procedures and guidelines established by the Division of Special Education.
  • Maintains data including, but not limited to, the number of students assessed, placed into special education, and other related data.
  • Assists in implementing collaborative activities with other professionals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
