About The Position

The Special Educational Director works collaboratively with the management team to ensure safety, stability and wellbeing of residents in our care that have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. The primary role of the Director is to hold the overall responsibility for special education services. They will assist with ensuring IDEA compliance, facilitating Evaluation Team Meetings, participating in IEP meetings for students with special education, reviewing and/or revising IEPs, and working collaboratively with the school’s administrative team to improve the achievement of all students with special education. This role is a part-time year round administrative position.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification in the State of Rhode Island as a special education administrator.
  • Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges.
  • Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs.
  • Excellent multitasking and communication skills a must.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.
  • Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Hold the overall responsibility for special education services.
  • Assist with ensuring IDEA compliance.
  • Facilitate Evaluation Team Meetings.
  • Participate in IEP meetings for students with special education.
  • Review and/or revise IEPs.
  • Work collaboratively with the school’s administrative team to improve the achievement of all students with special education.
  • Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed.
  • Implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
