About The Position

The Director of Education works collaboratively with the management team to ensure the safety, stability and wellbeing of students in our care that have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the educational curriculum at South County Academy. The Director develops and maintains the school’s policy and procedures manuals, ensures the school’s accreditation and licensure, and encapsulates the behavioral health clinical support within the classroom settings. They work collaboratively with the Rhode Island Department of Education to ensure a quality set of courses and materials that meet or exceed RIDE Standards and maintain FSRI’s mission of Equity Advancement and Inclusion and respects a youth’s individual learning styles. FSRI is a statewide organization with a 130-year track record of improving the health and well-being of children and families, passionate about advancing opportunity and hope. FSRI’s diverse and inclusive teams, working across Health, Healing, Home, and Hope divisions, are experts in their fields, delivering strategies to positively impact lives. They provide services statewide, operating in three locations in Providence and four locations in East Providence, Smithfield, and North Smithfield.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs
  • Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to travel to and from community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs
  • Ability to provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed
  • Must be able to work remotely and in person adhering to PHI requirements
  • Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary
  • Excellent multitasking and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience developing programming in the special education residential setting a plus
  • Spanish Speaking preferred and is compensated
