About The Position
Responsible for teaching physical education, health education, proper use of gym equipment, and nutrition to students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting. The role involves developing and monitoring student Individual Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards. This position requires collaborative work with the management team to ensure safety, stability, and professional guidance for students placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. This is a part-time, year-round position.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Teaching or Education
- RI certification as Teacher of regular or special education
- Knowledge base around subject matter i.e Art, Phys Ed, Science, Math, English, History
- Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
- Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs
- Excellent multitasking and communication skills a must
- Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to travel to and from community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
- Ability to be trained in de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care

- Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed
- Implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary
