About The Position

The School Psychologist at South County Academy collaborates with the Education Leadership team and clinical staff to support the safety, stability, and well-being of residents in care who have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. This role involves completing psychological and academic assessments for each student, developing IEP goals, and measuring youth’s academic progress. Additionally, the psychologist will provide practitioner-level mental health services for enrolled students, working individually with youth and their families to address their mental and emotional health needs. The position requires collaborative work with the Rhode Island Department of Education to ensure a quality set of courses and materials that align with FSRI’s mission of Equity Advancement and Inclusion and respect individual learning styles.

Requirements

  • Requires either a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, a master’s degree or an Ed.S. degree from an accredited university.
  • Maintain certification as a national certified school psychologist (NCSP) from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
  • Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges.
  • Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs.
  • Flexible schedule with some evenings.
  • Excellent multitasking and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team.
  • Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to travel to and from community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators.
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs.
  • Must be able to work remotely and in person adhering to PHI requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Complete psychological and academic assessments of each student placed at South County Academy.
  • Develop IEP goals and measure youth’s academic progress.
  • Provide practitioner-level mental health services for students enrolled.
  • Work individually with youth and with their families to meet children’s individual mental and emotional health needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Rhode Island Department of Education to ensure quality set of courses and materials that also maintain FSRI’s mission of Equity Advancement and Inclusion and respects a youth’s individual learning styles.
  • Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed.
  • Be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
