About The Position

Teaching foreign languages to students at the high school level involves introducing and reinforcing the students' understanding of a number of key concepts, including verbal, audible and written skills in elective languages. This role is responsible for teaching students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting. The position also involves developing and monitoring student Individual Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards, and working collaboratively with the management team to ensure safety, stability, and professional guidance to residents placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. This is a part time, year-round position.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Teaching or Education
  • RI certification as Teacher of regular or special education
  • Knowledge base around subject matter i.e Art, Phys Ed, Science, Math, English, History
  • Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
  • Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs
  • Flexible schedule with some evenings
  • Excellent multitasking and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to travel to and from community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs

Responsibilities

  • Teach foreign languages to students at the high school level, introducing and reinforcing verbal, audible and written skills in elective languages.
  • Teach students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting.
  • Develop and monitor student Individual Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the management team to ensure safety, stability and professional guidance to residents in our care that have been placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families.
  • Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed.
  • Be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary.
