About The Position

This position is responsible for teaching concepts including reading, writing, and literature to students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting. The role involves developing and monitoring student Individual Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards. The teacher will work collaboratively with the management team to ensure safety, stability, and professional guidance to residents placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. This is a part-time position.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Teaching or Education
RI certification as Teacher of regular or special education
Knowledge base around subject matter i.e Art, Phys Ed, Science, Math, English, History
Experience with children with behavioral/psychiatric challenges
Skilled in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs
Excellent multitasking and communication skills a must
Ability to work independently and part of a team
Current driver’s license
Reliable transportation
Registration and auto insurance
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to lift up to 20lbs

Responsibilities

Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed
Ability to be trained in and implement de-escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary
