About The Position

Ampersand Therapy is hiring a full-time Collaborative Special Education Teacher for a middle school setting in Birmingham, Alabama, for the 2026–2027 school year. The teacher will provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in collaborative classroom settings, work alongside general education teachers and multidisciplinary teams, and support the development and implementation of IEP goals. The position is suitable for experienced Special Education Teachers as well as those newer to school-based settings. The schedule is full-time, Monday through Friday, with a start date listed as ASAP.

Requirements

• Hold or be eligible for an appropriate Alabama Special Education certification: Collaborative Special Education 6–12.
• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, accommodations, and progress monitoring.
• Experience or knowledge supporting students with disabilities across inclusive, collaborative, or self-contained settings.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

• School-based Special Education experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized, IEP-driven instruction and support for students.
• Collaborate with general education teachers and school teams to support students across inclusive and specialized classroom settings.
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications.
• Assess student progress and maintain accurate data, reports, and compliance documentation.
• Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and families.
• Differentiate instruction based on individual developmental, academic, and functional needs.
• Support positive behavior, functional skills, and student engagement.
• Ensure compliance with state and district guidelines for IEP development, timelines, and implementation.
