The Special Education Teacher provides individual or group educational instruction to children in school, preschool, or early intervention programs, following the requirements of each student’s IEP or IFSP. The teacher assesses and documents student progress, creates instructional materials and lesson plans, and oversees teaching assistants and aides as needed.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in Special Education or Education from an accredited program.
• Current special education teacher certification from NYSED.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual or group educational instruction to children in school, preschool, or early intervention programs.
• Deliver educational instruction as mandated in the IEP or IFSP.
• Assess and document each student’s progress using formal and informal tests and measures.
• Create materials and lesson plans.
• Oversee teaching assistants and aides as needed.
