About The Position

DC Prep is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year, specifically for 8th-grade Math. This is a full-time, 10-month position located in Washington, DC. Special Educators at DC Prep are assigned to a particular grade level and are departmentalized from 3rd to 8th grade. DC Prep is a high-performing network of public charter schools serving over 2,100 students from preschool through 8th grade across six campuses. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of lead teaching experience as a special education teacher in an urban public school with a record of high student achievement highly preferred.
  • Concentration or advanced degree in education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adapt rigorous, standards-based curriculum to meet the particular needs of students, scaffolding learning and infusing the day with joy.
  • Plan for both grade-level instruction and small group instruction to ensure students can access grade-level content.
  • Analyze academic and classroom culture data to inform instruction and target focus areas for students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues daily to plan, troubleshoot problems, and adapt approaches.
  • Become an expert in one content area (Math for this role) while working with a team of educators.
  • Embody the DC Prep Way, contributing to a culture of high expectations and student achievement.
  • Support students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or ELL services through inclusion, small group, or one-on-one support, and daily targeted interventions.
  • Perform clerical duties related to instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, and assessments.
  • Regularly perform morning, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned by the principal.
  • Attend staff and student field trips, after-school events, family-teacher conferences, home visits, and other events involving parents and students as needed.
